Bronze – The new gold for divers
The DAVOSA Argonautic Bronze TT combines the best of the past and the present
Bronze was one of the first alloys made by man and for a long time it was the material of choice for making equipment, weapons and tools. At the end of the 19th century, as the occupation of professional diver emerged and as their equipment has undergone rapid development, marine-grade bronze was used to manufacture pressure-resistant diving helmets. The reason for this is that the copper alloys used to make bronze have a notable resistance to seawater corrosion, which is even significantly higher than that of stainless steel. Against this background, people have long relied on this material for seafaring, to make components that were in constant contact with seawater. Besides this, marine-grade bronze acquires a dark, matt patina upon contact with oxygen and seawater, which gave the divers better camouflage under water. Bronze thus became the material of choice for many nautical devices and the first diving bells. Inspired by the historical background of bronze in its association with diving, DAVOSA has developed the latest diver’s watch, the DAVOSA Argonautic Bronze TT. After the Argonautic Bronze with complete bronze case, launched by DAVOSA last year, was sold out within a short time, the successor model appears in two-tone design (TT = Two Tone), likewise limited to 300 pieces.
The DAVOSA Argonautic TT shows at first glance that it connects the worlds: the worlds of land and water; of those who dive and those who go ashore; of tradition and innovation, or also the worlds of elegant accessories and precise tools. Most striking is the visual impact of the DAVOSA Argonautic Bronze TT: While the case is made of satin-finished stainless steel, the distinctive bezel with an illuminated dot in the triangle above the twelve is made of the centuries-old nautical material, marine-grade bronze. While it initially gleams in a warm reddish-golden tone, it will oxidise over time and develop an unmistakable patina that makes each piece unique. No watch will be like any other later on. The textured black dial under the scratch resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal bears the suitable inscription Vintage Super Lumi Nova in the colour "Old Radium" on the indices and hands. The waterproof, 22 mm wide integrated rubber watch band is also black, with stainless steel folding clasp. Overall a combination that is as elegant as it is distinctive. The 43 mm diameter and 13.5 mm height of the case also are not least in representing this.
Underwater, the DAVOSA Argonautic TT scores with all the features of a professional diver’s watch: The case with screw down crown and back is waterproof down to 300 meters and equipped with a manual helium valve at the 10 o'clock position – this protects the watch and the diver alike: When the valve is open, the lighter helium molecules escape from the case first, which prevents the crystal and crystal seal from being blown open by excess pressure so that the watch will maintain its function as a reliable timepiece. Dive times can be set precisely by using the rotating bezel ring – and thanks to the clearly structured dial with SuperLumiNova on the indices and hands, it is possible to read them quickly and clearly at any time, even underwater. Regardless of which world you are wearing the DAVOSA Argonautic Bronze TT in, it always runs precisely and reliably: The Swiss automatic DAV 3021 movement with a power reserve of 38 hours makes sure of that. And the individual engraving of the model number on the case back as well as the elaborate wooden packaging are reminiscent of the fact that it remains an exclusive one-of-a-kind piece.
Thus, the latest DAVOSA Argonautic Bronze TT may also be selected as the new gold for divers.
